2020 "Offering of Letters"
Bread for the World’s 2020 “Offering of Letters”
Do Letters to Congress Matter?
People often wonder if our letters make any difference. Should we take time at our churches or meetings to write?
Let me tell you about the wonderful response to our 2019 letters: Senate Resolution 260 passed the U.S. Senate unanimously! The House has not yet voted on their similar resolution, House Res.189, but it is good news that Rep. Dusty Johnson signed onto it, and that it just passed his committee. These resolutions highlight U.S. leadership on global nutrition, lifting up the need and importance.
We are thankful for these actions and for every contact encouraging them. A unanimous Senate approval usually means people around the country were asking them too. Bread for the World “Offerings of letters” are usually part of a unified nation-wide Christian voice on a hunger issue.
Now what? Although hunger is greatly reduced, it isn’t gone. So we are persistent.
The 2020 “Offering of Letters”
This year we are asking Congress for funds for successful nutrition programs, totaling $200 million in poor countries, and $50 million for Summer EBT for U.S. children (up from $150 million and $35 million, respectively). Summer EBT is extra groceries during the summer for kids in need.

You can make a difference. Please consider writing to our members of Congress asking for investments for the most vulnerable in the U.S. and abroad, especially children. There are effective programs that deserve our support.
As we are called “to feed the hungry . . .”, this is an important way to live out that call as God asks. Churches and community organizations cannot solve hunger alone. We need to work together with our government to do so. Better nutrition for children leads to a better world for all.
Your letters to Congress will help more children escape malnutrition -- and get the nutrition they need to grow and thrive. Hungry children will not know to thank you, so we thank you.
